A Return to Britishness!

It wouldn't seem right if I didn't pass comment on the Royal Wedding yesterday.
Firstly, there are some people out there who don't have any affection for the Royals, and that is there entitlement, and there are others who also scoff at the expense and requirement for us to have a Royal Family at all. Well each to their own, but all I will say is that I heard recently that the income the country generates from tourism connected to the Royals, far outweighs the cost to the tax payers in our country to keep them in the lifestyle that they've become accustomed to. And also for all of those moaning about the big day yesterday...it did give us an extra bank holiday so happy days!

I did feel that the occassion marked a return to the traditional Britishness (for want of a better word) which we were once famed for. There was a great vibe around the country, and a great pride and spirit to be British. And talking about spirit, I spent the day in the company of my great friends Curph & Leah, as well as being surrounded by some of their other friends and family, enjoying a few beers/buck fizz and a bacon buttie or two. I watched the majority of the wedding, much to my suprise I must add, and thought everyone looked wonderful, especially Kate's sister Pippa who was absolutely stunning.
As all my friends said as she walked back down the aisle next to Harry, "get in there my son!" Lol.

My own view of the Royals is slightly biased due to my previous relationship to an ex-girlfriend.
Her cousin, David Gillham was the Queen's personal footman for quite a few years, and he met his wife, Jackie, whilst serving for the Palace, as she was the Queen's personal chambermaid...in fact it was Jackie's job to lay out the Queen's underwear every night for the following morning! Honestly, I'm telling the truth.
So due to this I always had an affection to the Royals to a certain degree. Knowing David & Jackie meant I did visit Buckingham Palace once, but although some of the rooms were amazing, the staff quarters wereen't so pleasant. Walking the corridors in these areas actually resembled an old school, a hospital or even a prison. The pay wasn't that great for them either, as due to living quarters and the prestige of working for the Royal Family, that was felt reward enough!
Oh, and I did meet and stroke the Queen's Corgi's...although this was only in the company of an armed security officer!

I hope this revival in patriotism and Britishness remains, as in my opinion this feeling had previously been absent for a while...long may it continue!
Enjoy the rest of the Bank Holiday weekend!
I'm just off to the pub to continue the good spirit and cheer on  Leeds as they face Burnley in a last bid attempt to revive their faint play-off hopes...'Marching On Together!'

Ramblin' Steve
